The 5 Most Iconic Creatures and Animals of Winter
Winter is a special time, with Christmas and the holidays coming in full swing and people getting excited for the new year. There are so many stories and legends associated with this season as a whole, and we often see imaginations and dreams running wild.
In the midst of all of this, many animals and creatures have become associated with the winter season, either because of their natural habitats or their connection with the Christmas holiday. Here is our list of the most iconic creatures you'll be seeing everywhere this winter.
Penguins
The penguin is an immensely popular animal due to it's cuteness and cool factor (bad pun intended). Due to the majority of penguins making their home in the frigid ice lands of Antarctica, the bird has become associated with the winter season and spirit. And for good reason. After all, who wouldn't want to cuddle up with one of these adorable birds?
Polar Bears
Similar to penguins, polar bears have also become a winter icon due to their cold habitat (although polar bears live north in the Arctic Circle as opposed to south in Antarctica like the penguins). With numerous "wintery" portrayals in popular culture (Coca Cola advertisements anyone?), the popularization of the polar bear has, like the penguin, rendered them cute and adorable in the public's eye. As a result, the polar bear is now indeed one of the most iconic creatures of the winter season.
Reindeer

Reindeer!
When Santa decided to enlist the help of the reindeer to pull his sleigh, he forever immortalized them in the history of Christmas, and by extension, in the season of winter. While they do live in colder habitats, it is mostly because of their Christmas presence that we now associate them with winter. Not that anyone is complaining, as reindeer can prove to be cute creatures, especially in plush form!
Snowman
If you want to argue that this isn't a creature, Frosty the Snowman (and thousands of children) would like to have a word with you. Partly due to this Christmas tradition, and also due to the fact that it's, well, a SNOWman, these guys are one of the most iconic images of winter. Check any decorative calendar and you will almost always find a snowman next to December or January (unless you live in the Southern Hemisphere).
Yetis
Also known as "the abominable snowman," the yeti is originally a creature of myth and speculation. Similar to some of the previous listed creatures here, appearances and "cute-ifying" in popular culture has led to the yeti becoming an adorable and somewhat newer addition to the iconic winter creatures instead.
